Client profile

Moixa Energy requested for CambridgeIP’s support in the proposed sale or out-licensing of its intellectual property assets around self-charge batteries, support for prismatic batteries (i.e. smart-phone/gaming batteries) and smart batteries (e.g. with embedded data)

Business situation

The client was looking at selling or out-licensing its intellectual property assets around its self-charge and smart batteries under the brand “USB Cell”. Key objectives of the project include:
  • Identification of new potential purchasers of the IP
  • Confirmation of the relevance of known potential purchasers of the IP
  • Recommendations for improving the likely value of the IP
  • Analysis of assets to showcase significance and quality of IP to potential purchasers

CambridgeIP's approach

  • We audited the client’s patent portfolio with the the focus on USB rechargeable batteries, developing indexed and cross-referenced patent databases
  • We defined the client’s space and conduct patent activity study using CambridgeIP’s patent search platform
  • We undertake IP Survey and benchmarking analysis against the client’s existing portfolio
  • Business intelligence and key statistics were extracted using CambridgeIP’s suite of patent analysis tools

Results and benefits

  • Our results showed that Moixa Energy’s patents on USB Cell were cited by a number of large multinational corporations
  • Benchmarking analysis showed that Moixa Energy’s patents were widely referenced in the industry across a range of technology fields
  • Our client is using our outputs to build internal and external stakeholder support for the proposed sales or out-licensing of its IP assets
